Local Hotels
Hotel Durant:

The Durant is a charming boutique style hotel with 140 guest rooms, 10 suites, and banquet facilities. Cable TV. Daily room service is provided by Henry's Publick House & Grille, the hotel's full service restaurant and bar. Parking is available to guests for $10 a day. We recommend the Hotel Durant for easy access to Cal Performances.

Bancroft Hotel:

The Claremont Resort, Spa, and Tennis Club:

The Claremont, nestled in the Berkeley Hills overlooking the bay, is a majestic Victorian style hotel. Jordan's, the hotel restaurant, has an excellent menu and wine list. Nightly entertainment is presented in the Terrace Bar. Amenities include cable TV, tennis courts, a jogging course, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a complete European-style health spa. 30 minute walk, five-minute drive to campus.

The Faculty Club:

Room w/ private bath: newly renovated $77-$84, un-renovated, $64-$71, shared bath: $54-$56, based on number of people. Special rooms include the executive suite for $110 a night, and the Tower Room for $79 per night. No room service. Television; no cable. Complimentary continental breakfast. Lunch and dinner served Monday-Friday. Parking available for $7 a day. The Faculty Club was built in 1902, and is located on campus directly behind Hertz Hall.

French Hotel:

Holiday Inn Bay Bridge:

Holiday Inn Express:
510-548-1700; 1175 University Ave, Berkeley. Cal Performances rate for a basic room $109. You must mention that you are with the University. Rooms include computer data ports, coffee makers, hair dryers, iron and ironing boards. In addition the newly built hotel features refrigerators and microwaves in every room. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily from 6-10am daily. Conveniently accessible to BART and 23 miles from San Francisco International Airport and 10 miles from Oakland International Airport.

Radisson Hotel Berkeley Marina:

Rose Garden Inn:

Hotel Shattuck Plaza, Howard Johnson's:

Lake Merritt Hotel:

Women's Faculty Club:

Rates: $85 for a single room, $95 per double (with queen size bed,); $105 per double (with two twin beds). No room service. Includes a complimentary continental breakfast, served in the lounge. Open to both women and men. The dining room offers lunch. The Women's Faculty Club is located near The Faculty Club in a pleasant and relaxed garden-like setting. Woodfin Suite Hotel:

The Huntington:

The Phoenix Inn:

Continental breakfast and free parking included. Cable TV. The Phoenix, with forty-four guest rooms, an art gallery, sculpture garden, poolside cafe, and massage therapy, is the only moderately priced hotel in San Francisco that caters to guests involved in the arts. Backflip, the Inn's restaurant and cocktail lounge are open late every night but Monday.

The Prescott:

Airport Commuter:

Bay Porter Express:

BART to Oakland Airport:
510-562-7700. - Take Fremont train to the Oakland Coliseum station and transfer to AirBART shuttle. Call BART for departure times. $1.65 BART fare from Berkeley to Coliseum station (20 minutes). AirBART fare is $2 and commute time to the airport is 5-10 minutes.

BART to SFO Airport:
From the East Bay, take the S.F./Daly City train across the bay to the Powell Street Station. Walk
up Powell Street to Union Square (~1.5 blocks from BART). The Airporter shuttle services various hotels in the area. See "SFO Airporter" for details. Or take the same line to the Daly City or Colma stop and board the appropriate SamTrans bus to SFO airport. From Daly City take SamTrans 3B (days and early evenings only). From Colma take SamTrans 3X.

East Bay Airporter: 925-671-7846 or 925-853-2624.

SFO Airporter: 650-624-0500 (schedule information); 54 Tanforan Ave., San Francisco. The dispatch office is open evenings and weekends. Provides shuttle service from several downtown San Francisco hotels around Union Square to SF Airport. Buses depart every 20 minutes from Westin St. Francis Hotel and the Hilton. Parking

Parking reservations and other special arrangements must be made in advance. For artist loading and unloading arrangements, reservations, or other parking inquiries, please contact Jane Goodwin at Cal Performances: 510-642-3276. Metered parking and two hour limited parking is available on city streets surrounding the campus. Free street parking Sunday. Paid public parking is also available in the lot located underneath Zellerbach. Entrance to this lot is located on the right side of Bancroft Way just before Dana Street. We also recommend parking in any of the many reasonably priced city parking lots located on the south side of campus near Telegraph.

Studios: One studio is 20'x24' and has wood floors. Piano available. No barres or mirrors. $15-$25 per hour. The other studio is 850 sq. ft., with barres and mirrors. No piano. Ballet shoes OK in both studios. Available some evenings and weekends. $15-$25 per hour. A nominal deposit may be required for rental. Availability is limited, so call ahead.

Recreational Sports Facility (RSF): 510-643-9262, contact Sandy Camillos; 2301 Bancroft Way (between Dana and Ellsworth, directly west of Zellerbach Hall). Dance studio has hardwood floors, barres, mirrors, and a high quality sound system. One large curtain can divide this room into two rehearsal areas. $75 per hour for the whole room. Ballet shoes OK. No piano. Two-four week advance notice required.

Shawl-Anderson Dance Center: 510-654-5921;

Tennis Courts

RSF daily visitor's fee for reservations and access to tennis courts is $10. Call 510-642-8345 for court reservations. There are five tennis areas on campus (Scenic Tennis Courts, La Loma Courts, Hellman Courts, Channing Courts, Hearst Courts). The Scenic Tennis Courts and the La Loma Courts are located in North Berkeley on Hearst Ave. The Hellman Courts are located centrally within the campus, just a five-minute walk from Zellerbach Hall. Channing Courts are located at the intersection of Channing and Ellsworth. Hearst Courts are located on Bancroft Ave. between the Hearst Museum of Anthropology and Hearst Gym.

Nearby Nature

Near Berkeley and San Francisco there are a number of parks and other nature areas to visit, less than an hour away. Some highlights are the wine country in Napa Valley, just an hour north of Berkeley, the Marin Headlands, Stinson Beach, and Point Reyes, 75-90 minutes northwest of the Bay Area. Below are some areas closer to Berkeley, or call the East Bay Regional Park District, 510-562-7275, for more detailed information.

Berkeley Marina: 510-849-2727 (sports center). 225 University Ave. Located at the west end of University Avenue in Berkeley. Go over the overpass at the end of University Avenue until you reach the water. Turn left, first building on your right.

Mt. Tamalpais: 415 388-2070; 801 Panoramic Highway, Mill Valley. A sacred site for California Native Americans. Extensive redwoods and wildlife. Provides a spectacular view of the Bay Area on a clear day. Plenty of hiking trails. Approximately 3.2 miles from Stinson Beach. There are also some picnic tables and barbecues. Muir Woods: A beautiful redwood forest with extensive walking and hiking paths. See Mt. Tamalpais directions, following signs to Muir Woods from Highway 1 North.

Tilden Park: 510-562-7275 (general information), in Berkeley. Hiking trails, swimming, picnic areas, golf course, botanical gardens and a carousel. From Berkeley: Take Oxford Ave. to Hearst. Turn right on Hearst, left on Spruce. Stay on Spruce until the four-way intersection of Spruce, Grizzly Peak Blvd., Canyon Road, and Wildcat Canyon Road. This is the main entrance to the park.
