Check back here occasionally as improvements and additions are made to the files. The Systems group here at CAL Performances is to be thanked for their hard work and long hours keeping the PASS ticketing, department networked workstations, University-wide databases and our Calperfs and SMA and CAL Band webservers up and running. I believe they the were the first to get Lightwright 3 running on a secure network. These files are duplicated in the "File Area" for your convenience.

While it would be great if all these files were completely accurate and up-to-date, it is simply not possible. What you see here is what is available at the moment, the file table has the posting date. Contact myself or the operations office directly for further information.

    Vectorworks Files

If you don't have Vectorworks, you can get the free Vectorworks v9 Viewer from Nemetschek.

    • Current full v9 za_med_v9.mcd What a mess.
      • Good things
        • Simple layer is accurately measured
        • Handicapped seating is current (more so than the orchestra seating gif)
        • New Green room modification is current
        • FOH is current with S4 10*
        • Section exists (thanks to Greg Linhares at Meyer Sound who converted the image, their color image of the M2D line array coverage is very cool)
      • Bad things
        • Section is bare
        • Not integrated with Lightwright
        • Lighting symbols and positions barely incorporated
        • Line schedule worksheet not done
        • Hatching not done
        • Fonts are all basic Arial
        • Seating numbers mis-aligned
        • 3D concepts unfulfilled (working planes, side views etc.)
        • New VIP lobby lounge not done
        • Building levels not done (a lot of trace bitmapping)
    • Current v8 za_new_v9_v8.mcd
      • As above except is not as current because I don't always do the export after working in v9
    • ZA_Small_v10
      • New 6x16 1st Beam instrumentation placed. Meyer sound updates.

    • Stripped Down v9 za_small.mcd
      • Good things-
        • All seating, sound, detail, 3D, building and other stuff deleted and purged
        • Intended for use as a base for theatrical event users
      • Bad things-
        • Section is bare
        • Not integrated with Lightwright
        • Lighting symbols and positions barely incorporated
    • Stripped Down v8 za_small_v8.mcd
      • As above except is not as current because I don't always do the export after working in v9

    Autocad DWG Files

Instrument symbols are from Dennis Hudson of the San Francisco Ballet. Seating is from work done by a CAL Performances work-study student. Otherwise this is the starting drawing for the theater, stage measurements are by hand. CADviewer is available for the Macintosh, Autodesk's free Volo View Express v2.01can now view dwg files for those who do not have Autocad. We do not as yet have a working copy of Autocad 2000+, and our copy of LT98 is not working on the Windows 2000 network, so updates will not be frequent.

    • Somewhat dated r14 za.dwg
      • Not an export from VW, the last working drawing in LT98 before VW arrived. Z dimensions are intact, FOH, seating, grid and linesets are set at height. Isometric view looks kind of cool.
      • Green room and other changes not up to date.
      • No section
    • VW v9 export za_new_v9.dwg
      • Exported from the associated VW file
      • 3D concepts lost, or badly arranged
      • Green room modifications up to date

    DWF Files

With all due respect to Vectorworks, this is still the coolest, free, format for web-based viewing. Layers can be switched on or off. These are saved from the dated za.dwg r14 drawing, I could never get the named views to save so there are three files, each saved from it's associated view. VoloView Express v2.01 is the latest free viewer, however I found that the old Whip! viewer was faster, VoloView can take agonizingly long to draw the screen, mostly because the files were saved with all layers active, so start by turning all but A_simple and A_Xhairs off.

    DXF Files

    • Export from the full za.dwg r14 file za.dxf
    • Text Export from the full VW v9 file za_new_v9.dxf
    • Text Export from the stripped VW v9 file za_small.dxf
      • Presently not as up to date as other za_small files

    PDF Files

Al Crawford, of Alvin Ailey, has the brilliant idea of printing all light plots in pdf format. No fooling around with other printing issues and they look great. So far I have just done a couple sizes, It's a nice format because you can do your own annotations and erasures. They are on the busy side because I figure you can erase what you don't want. Let us know if you want a custom print.
